Franco Zeffirelli gets Rome award

Academy bestows McKim creative achievement honor

ROME -- The American Academy of Rome on Thursday awarded its McKim award for creative achievement to two-time Oscar nominee Franco Zeffirelli.

The award, named after Charles F. McKim, the 114-year-old academy's founder, presented yearly to a distinguished person in a creative field, is only occasionally presented to film personalities.

Zeffirelli, 85, is best known for his nomination for the best director Oscar in 1968, for "Romeo and Juliet." He earned a best art direction nomination in 1983, for "La Traviata."
